On 7th May 2025, India launched “Operation Sindoor” in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 people were killed. Under this operation nine terrorist facilities were targeted and destroyed by India. These sites were located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir(PoK).
Government officials said these destroyed locations were base camps of the terrorist groups where the terrorists like Ajmal Kasab and David headley had trained.
Intelligence reports confirmed the attack was planned from terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
These targets were used by terrorist groups such as LeT, TRF, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) as launchpads for infiltration, arms training centres, communication and logistics hubs and explosives and drone launch sites.
The attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF)- a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba(LeT), which has long-standing links with Pakistan’s ISI.
However, Pakistan continued denying involvement in this attack and claimed to have no links with that terrorist attack.
India had warned Pakistan on the issue multiple times in the past but Pakistan did not take any firm action to deal with the terrorism.
Therefore India has decided to take strict actions against these terrorist groups and have responded appropriately.
As a response to this terrorist action India has taken measures like Suspension of Indus Waters Treaty, Closure of Wagah Border, Banned Pakistani airlines from Indian airspace and most importantly conduct of “Operation Sindoor”.
While briefing, India justified the action had been taken under a diplomatic framework. India also said it has taken the action under Article 51 of the UN Charter which gives Right to Self-Defence.
India had chosen the targets carefully based on the inputs from RAW, NTRO and military surveillance to avoid military installations or civilian infrastructure, ensuring no provocation for war.
These measures were non-escalatory in nature and no Pakistani military facilities had been targeted under that operation.
